My Grandmother, Rashida Malik

My grandmother, Rashida Malik, is an amazing person with an incredible life story. She was the seventh child in her family and became an orphan at a very young age. Despite the challenges, her elder brother stepped in to take care of her and all their siblings. In 1974, she married my grandfather, who was a doctor and very supportive of her dreams. Even though it was uncommon for girls to study in Pakistan at that time, my grandmother defied the odds. She went back to school, completed her graduation, and even earned an LLB degree! Though she chose not to pursue a career due to her responsibilities at home, she never stopped learning and growing. She was always by my grandfather’s side, supporting him through all the highs and lows of life. When my grandfather passed away, she faced the loss with great courage and moved abroad with her sons. My grandmother is truly a gem. She loves reading and always encourages me to learn and explore new things. With her warm smile and kind heart, she’s always ready to help others. I’m sure you’d love her if you ever met her. Her name, Rashida, means brave, obedient, educated, and trained—and she truly lives up to it.
